"Apophos, she is almost upon me..."
No matter how they did it, following Betelgeuse took too much cautious time and the mare is out of your Ballator’s sight. Your Ballator at least knows that they are on her trail, however, as there is a wide swath of destruction and further decay where the mare has made her way through the bracken.
It sounds like your Ballator is not the only one trailing Betelgeuse in the woods. Barely a whisper, they hear a soft voice plead:
“Apophis, she is almost upon me…”
It might have been the wind, but your Ballator picks up the pace anyway and now they see what else is trailing after the troubadour.
A desert stallion bursts through the trees ahead, ignoring your Ballator as he cries out in some gutteral language that they have never heard. Fire roars up from fissures in the ground and your Ballator shies away from the closest one in panic. The Deadwoods are now aflame! The stallion swings his head and in the firelight, your Ballator watches as bones tied to his horns from leather cords dangle. He gazes through the eyesockets of of bone crown with red eyes before turning away. An owl screeches overhead and Apophis follows its call– away from the direction he initially seemed to be headed.
This is a Shadow Prompt. Your Ballator is faced with a decision: Keep going in the direction they were initially going, hoping to stumble across Betelgeuse again, or follow Apophis who seems to be able to dodge the flames with no concern.
Uncertain at first, your Ballator has to act quickly– both options might be perilous in their own way, but there’s only one way to find out… For this prompt, please depict your Ballator’s choice as laid out above.
